Deep dives: Why knowing your values really matters
Learn how and why if you engage in values based decision making, you really can't go wrong
Last week, I shared exactly how to work out your values, and this week I’m sharing how to then use your values with any decision you face.
When you’re contemplating any big decision, regardless if the decision is about your post-burnout career or not, if you go back to your values then you really can’t go wrong. This is true whether the decision is one where your choices are limited or unwanted, or whether you have multiple choices and you are finding it hard to narrow it down. If you always go back to your guiding principles (your values), you know that you are making a decision that is right for you at this present time.
Post burnout you will often have to make some difficult decisions, and if your values have changed after burnout (inevitably, they will have done!) then you can’t stand by previous decisions, because they will no longer honour what’s important to you.
Decision making after burnout can also feel like wading through treacle. Often the burden of decision making feels slow and heavy- because this is burnout we’re talking about- the mental fatigue and cognitive slowing is real.
